On a Wildflower-Lined Gravel Track Off a Quiet Thoroughfare… In the context of Cyprus’ participation in the 60th Venice Biennale, Lower Levant Company (LLC), Endrosia Collective, and Haig Aivazian came together as Forever Informed. This alias captures the double-edged pursuit of information and power, marked by hubristic impossibility. One of their multiple outlets, this publication stands as a critical apparatus, compiling writings authored by the artists. Each text appears in English, Cypriot Greek, Cypriot Turkish, and Arabic—offering a substantive rather than representational gesture. It highlights current exigencies in the region while challenging the boundaries between official institutional languages and nonstandard vernaculars, which modernity has ideologically deemed culturally inferior.
This catalogue accompanied Maria Loizidou’s exhibition, The Place I Am Not, held at the Freud Museum in London (25 September – 20 October 2024) and The Hellenic Centre (2 October – 21 October). Curated by Inês Costa and Nayia Yiakoumaki, the exhibition reflects on Sigmund Freud’s life in London as an immigrant seeking to create a 'home away from home' in a place where he never truly felt he belonged. The diasporic element plays a central role in Loizidou’s artistic practice, engaging in an open dialogue with spaces, objects, and stories that serve as transitory elements in the formation of hybrid identities.
